Having the tiny two-winged flies buzzing around your house is a nuisance. Although they are important for nature as they break down the decomposing matter, they pose certain health risk for humans. Since they breed and feed on decaying food, garbage, remains of animals and feces, they carry germs with them. Once they land in our exposed food they transfer these germs and create health problems. They keep on flitting between food and garbage and hence spread infections more rapidly. This article will give you a little intro on how to control fly infestation in your house.


There are different species of flies in our household but the two most common are houseflies and fruit flies. Though fruit flies possess no such health risk, house flies can be dangerous, because they carry infections of food poisoning, diarrhea and cholera.


If you are worried about fly, rats and cockroaches infestation in your house and want to know how to control them, especially house flies, here are some tips for you.

  • The first thing you should do is to clean your surroundings. You will need to dispose of the trash regularly. Don’t let it sit outside your house for days and weeks. Keep the garbage bins closed. This will give them very little to breed and feed.
  • Clean the inside of your home, especially the kitchen, thoroughly. Do not left the dirty dishes forever in the kitchen. Do not leave the leftover food in open. Clean the countertop with soap and water to remove any food particles.
  • If you have pet in your house, make sure to clean their feces immediately. This will keep the pesky flies away from your home.
  • Even if you are placing your rotten fruits and food in compost piles there are still high chances of flies breeding on them. The best way is to keep them well covered. If you find flies on your compost piles, put boiling water on it. This will effectively kill any larvae.
  • If the flies are inside your house, darken your room by putting off the lights and drawing all the curtains. Only leave a little lid of door or window open for flies to get attracted towards light and ultimately leave your house.
