Silverfish Pest Control
There are several species of pests which infest our house. Besides Termites, Silverfish is one of them. Though there are no health hazards of having silverfish in your house, still these pesky little pests can be quite irritating. Here is a little intro of the silverfish, also known as fish moth. The silverfish are nocturnal and breed and thrive in areas with warm temperature and high humidity. Their diet includes, paper, fabric, dead skin and other starchy substance. They can eat your belongings like books and cardboard boxes.
To deal with the silverfish infestation problem you will have to understand how to control them. The first thing to prevent silverfish infestation is to make your house less hospitable for them. Since they thrive on damp and warm place, one of the surest ways to remove silverfish from your house or preventing their infestation is to reduce the humidity in your house. This can be done by installing a dehumidifier in your house. There are other ways to reduce humidity. Avoid keeping wet clothes for long in your bathroom. Avoid long showers and steam. Keep your fan on to reduce the humidity. Fill out any cracks and holes which may be possible home for silverfish to lay their eggs. Get rid of old cardboard boxes, or store them on shelves. If your wallpaper is old, replace it or paint the walls.
One of the most popular methods of controlling silverfish is to sprinkle the infested area with boric powder. Diatomaceous Earth is also fatal for several insects including silverfish. However, make sure that your children or pets do not go to the area where it’s sprinkled. A chemical pesticide named pyrethrin is also very effective in controlling silverfish. You can also make your own jar trap for trapping the silverfish. This can be done by covering the outer wall of the jar with the masking tape and putting some starchy food inside it. The silverfish will crawl inside it but will not be able to crawl outside due to slippery surface.
